Why Use Engineering Plastics for Bushings & Bearings

Bushings and bearings operate under continuous sliding or rotating contact, where friction, wear and lubrication requirements determine service life. Engineering plastics offer an alternative to metal bearing materials with inherently lower friction, resistance to seizing, and — in self-lubricating grades — reduced or eliminated need for external lubrication.

Material selection depends on load, speed, temperature and chemical exposure. Standard grades such as POM-C and PA6C provide reliable performance for general mechanical applications, while high-performance grades such as PEEK HPV are specifically engineered for high pressure, high velocity and dry-running conditions. Where corrosion resistance or chemical exposure is a factor, fluoropolymers and PEEK grades maintain performance where metal bearings would degrade.
