PE – Polyethylene

PE is the go-to material for high-wear sliding, conveying and material-handling applications in industrial environments. Available in two molecular weight grades, PE 1000 (PE-UHMW) and PE 500 (PE-HMW), it combines extreme wear and abrasion resistance with a very low coefficient of friction, very high impact strength and excellent chemical resistance. Physiologically harmless grades are available for direct food contact applications.

PE – Polyethylene

PE is available in two primary molecular weight grades, each engineered for a distinct performance profile. PE 1000 (PE-UHMW) has an ultra-high molecular weight of 4,000,000 to 9,000,000, which gives it the highest wear and abrasion resistance in the polyethylene family. It is the standard choice for sliding and conveying elements, wear linings, carriers and screw conveyors in general mechanical engineering.

Both grades are available in virgin form and as regenerate. PE 1000 Regenerate is produced from ultra-high molecular polyethylene powder and finely ground PE 1000. PE 500 Regenerate is produced from finely ground PE 500 and PE 1000.

Special designs are available for specific requirements: PE 1000 AST for antistatic applications, PE 1000 MoS for improved tribological performance, and UV-stabilised grades for outdoor use in both PE 1000 and PE 500. PE is available in the widest colour range of any material in the Plastix Factory portfolio, particularly in PE 500, where colours include natural, black, yellow, reddish brown, red, blue, green and grey.

Extreme Wear and Abrasion Resistance

PE 1000 offers the highest wear resistance in the polyethylene family, suitable for sustained sliding and friction contact

Very High Notched Bar Impact Strength

Outstanding toughness and impact resistance, including at low temperatures

Low Coefficient of Sliding Friction

Suitable for sliding, conveying and material-handling applications without additional lubrication

High Cut and Scratch Resistance

PE 500 is particularly suited for cutting surfaces, food processing boards and shop-floor applications

Excellent Chemical Resistance

Resistant to a wide range of acids, bases and industrial chemicals across both grades

Physiologically Harmless

Food-contact compliant grades available for direct use in food processing, packaging and cold store environments

Available Product Forms

PE is available in sheets and round bars across PE 1000, PE 1000 Regenerate, PE 500 and PE 500 Regenerate grades. Log in to check live stock availability, pricing and lead times for your specific dimensions and grade requirements.

Sheets

PE 1000 and PE 500 both available in 2000x1000 mm and 3000x1250 mm formats. Thicknesses from 1 to 150 mm across standard and made-to-order dimensions. Wide colour range available in PE 500.

Round Bars

PE 1000 round bars from 10 to 200 mm diameter in 2000 mm lengths in natural, green and black. PE 500 round bars available on request.

Cut-to-Size

Custom cut to your exact dimensions from standard sheet or bar stock across all grades.

Finished Parts

CNC-machined parts to your technical drawings. Suitable for wear pads, conveyor components, slide rails and food-contact parts.

Special Designs

PE 1000 AST (antistatic), PE 1000 MoS (tribologically modified) and UV-stabilised grades for PE 1000 and PE 500 are available on request.

Typical Applications

PE is used across a broad range of industrial, food processing and material handling applications where extreme wear resistance, low friction and high impact strength are the defining requirements.

Sliding and Conveying Elements

PE 1000 is the standard material for slide rails, wear strips, conveyor guides and sliding elements in mechanical engineering and conveyor technology. Its extreme abrasion resistance and low friction deliver long service life without lubrication.

Wear Linings and Wear Pads

Applied as wear linings for chutes, hoppers, silos and bulk material handling equipment where abrasion from continuous material flow would rapidly wear standard materials.

Carriers and Screw Conveyors

PE 1000 is used for screw conveyor flights, carrier components and material-handling parts in processing plants where wear resistance and low adhesion to transported materials are required.

Food Processing and Slaughterhouse Industry

PE 500 Natural is physiologically harmless and approved for direct food contact. Used for cutting boards, conveyor components, guides and processing surfaces in food, meat processing and packaging lines.

Cold Store and Shop-Floor Construction

PE 500 is used for impact protection profiles, floor covering elements and structural panels in cold store construction and industrial shop-floor environments where cut resistance and impact toughness are required.

Antistatic and Outdoor Applications

PE 1000 AST is used in environments where electrostatic discharge is a risk. UV-stabilised grades of PE 1000 and PE 500 are used for outdoor components and exposed installations where UV degradation must be prevented.

Available in 2 Variants

Ultra-high and high molecular polyethylene grades offering extreme wear resistance, high impact strength and excellent chemical resistance for industrial applications.

PE 1000

Ultra-high molecular polyethylene with molecular weight of 4,000,000 to 9,000,000, ideal for sliding, conveying and wear-intensive mechanical engineering components.

PE 500

High molecular polyethylene with molecular weight over 500,000, combining excellent sliding properties, cut resistance and chemical resistance for food and industrial use.
