ECTFE – Ethylene Chlorotrifluoroethylene

ECTFE is a high-performance fluoropolymer combining outstanding chemical resistance with high mechanical strength, low permeability and a wide operating temperature range from -76°C to +150°C. With excellent abrasion resistance and non-stick surface properties, it is used in chemical processing, coatings and semiconductor applications where standard fluoropolymers do not provide the required combination of strength and permeation resistance.

ECTFE – Ethylene Chlorotrifluoroethylene

ECTFE is a fluoropolymer produced as a copolymer of ethylene and chlorotrifluoroethylene. As a copolymer, it combines the chemical inertness and non-stick properties characteristic of the fluoropolymer family with higher mechanical strength, abrasion resistance and impact toughness than pure PTFE, while maintaining very low permeability to gases and liquids.

ECTFE operates reliably across a wide temperature range, from cryogenic conditions down to -76°C through to a continuous operating temperature of approximately +150°C. It maintains its mechanical and chemical properties consistently across this range, making it suitable for both structural and lining applications.

ECTFE’s exceptionally low permeation rate, combined with strong resistance to acids, bases, solvents and oxidising agents, makes it a preferred material for barrier coatings, vessel linings and components exposed to aggressive and high-purity process media. Its radiation resistance further extends its use into semiconductor and pharmaceutical environments.

High Mechanical Strength and Abrasion Resistance

Stronger and more abrasion-resistant than pure PTFE, suitable for structural and lining applications.

Typical Applications

ECTFE is used in chemical processing, coating and semiconductor applications where a fluoropolymer with higher mechanical strength, abrasion resistance and permeation resistance than PTFE is required.

Chemical Processing Equipment

Used for vessel linings, pipe linings, tank components and equipment parts in chemical processing plants where resistance to aggressive chemicals combined with low permeability is required to protect underlying structures.

Protective Coatings

Applied as a barrier coating on metal substrates in chemical and industrial environments, providing corrosion protection with excellent adhesion and abrasion resistance.

Semiconductor & High-Purity Environments

Used for components and linings in semiconductor manufacturing and high-purity process equipment where chemical inertness and low particle generation are critical.

Precision Machined Parts

ECTFE round bars and sheets are CNC-machined into precision parts including valve components, fittings and insulating elements for chemical and electrical equipment.

Cable and Wire Insulation

Applied as insulation and jacketing for wire and cable in demanding environments requiring flame resistance and chemical durability.

Vessel and Tank Linings

Used for lining tanks, scrubbers and process vessels handling corrosive media, where a durable, low-permeability barrier is required.
