Polyimide is designated a super engineering plastic because its performance characteristics exceed what is achievable with conventional high-performance thermoplastics. Its operational temperature range of -269°C to +400°C covers conditions from deep cryogenic environments to extreme high-temperature industrial processes, a range no other plastic in this portfolio approaches.
Where PEEK operates up to 250°C and PEI up to 170°C, Polyimide continues to perform reliably at temperatures well above both. This performance comes from the polyimide polymer backbone itself, which has one of the highest thermal stabilities of any organic material.
Polyimide sheets are supplied in a precision format of 360x320mm, reflecting the specialized and high-value nature of the material. Round bars are available from 2mm diameter, suitable for miniature precision components in electronics and instrumentation.
Operational temperature range of -269°C to +400°C. The widest thermal range of any material in the Plastix Factory portfolio.
Resistant to wear under sustained friction contact, particularly in filled grades engineered for tribological applications
Consistent and predictable friction behaviour across operating conditions, critical for precision mechanical components
Excellent dielectric properties maintained across the full temperature range, suitable for high-specification electrical insulating applications
Inherently flame retardant without additives, suitable for aerospace and electronics environments with strict fire safety requirements
Machinable by CNC turning, milling and drilling to precise tolerances for small, high-value components
High-Performance Engineering Plastics
Precision format 360x320mm in thicknesses from 1 to 50mm across nine standard thicknesses. All dimensions in standard stock. Suited for precision machined flat components, insulating plates and wear elements.
Solid bars from 2 to 85mm diameter in 1000mm lengths. Wide diameter range covers miniature components in electronics and instrumentation through to larger industrial parts. Full range in standard stock.
Custom cut to your exact dimensions from standard sheet or bar stock across all five variants.
CNC-machined precision parts to your technical drawings. Suitable for bearing bushings, thrust washers, seals, insulating rings and precision structural components in aerospace and semiconductor applications.
Used for insulating components, carrier plates, precision housings and structural parts in electronics manufacturing and electrical engineering where stable dielectric performance at extreme temperatures is required. The ESD grade provides controlled surface resistivity for semiconductor and LCD applications.
Applied in aerospace structural and functional components where lightweight, high-temperature performance, flame retardancy and dimensional stability under combined thermal and mechanical stress are simultaneously required. Polyimide covers the cryogenic to high-temperature range that aerospace applications demand.
Used in semiconductor fabrication equipment, wafer handling, test sockets and precision components in chip manufacturing environments where chemical resistance, dimensional precision, thermal stability and electrostatic control are all critical.
Applied in high-temperature under-bonnet components, transmission parts and engine-adjacent elements where sustained elevated operating temperatures and wear resistance exceed the capability of standard engineering plastics.
Used for precision medical device components, instrument parts and structural elements where biocompatibility, sterilization resistance and dimensional precision are required in miniature high-performance applications.
Applied in precision bearing elements, thrust washers, wear rings and sliding components in heavy machinery where dry-running capability, high load and extreme temperatures are combined. Graphite and MoS grades are specified for these applications.
